2022 MLB Draft: Players Announced For Draft Combine

Major League Baseball and USA Baseball announced the players participating in the 2022 draft combine today, and the second edition of the pre-draft event features an impressive and deep group of prospects.

One hundred and thirty-seven college players and 118 high school players will attend the event, which takes place in San Diego at Petco Park after the inaugural draft combine took place at USA Baseball’s National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

The combine features various on-field and off-the-field activities, and while players aren’t guaranteed to workout, take batting practice or play in games if they are attending, the field features plenty of big names for the 2022 draft and will give players the opportunity to have interviews with teams and also go through various testing and medical evaluations.

The field is led by six players who rank among the top 10 on Baseball America’s top 300 draft list, including Cal Poly shortstop Brooks Lee (No. 2), Georgia high school shortstop Termarr Johnson (No. 4), Georgia Tech catcher Kevin Parada (No.6), Louisiana State infielder Jacob Berry (No. 7), Virginia Tech outfielder Gavin Cross (No. 9) and Chipola (Fla.) JC third baseman Cam Collier (No. 10). Including those six players, there are 16 total players ranked inside the first round.

The improved talent of the field could have something to do with the additional benefits that are granted to players who are invited to the combine and fully participate in the pre-draft MRI program.

Players who do fully participate will then have to receive a signing bonus offer of at least 75% of the slot value of their assigned pick. Players drafted after the 10th round who participated in the medical examinations must receive at least a $50,000 signing bonus. If those thresholds are not met, players would become free agents and teams would not receive a supplemental pick during the following year.

You can see the full list of players attending the combine below, with draft rankings where applicable.
