Terry Rooney Leaving UCF For Alabama Assistant Job

Terry Rooney is leaving Central Florida, the school announced late Tuesday, and reportedly going to Alabama as associate head coach for newly hired Greg Goff.

Goff three weeks ago left Louisiana Tech after two seasons to coach the Crimson Tide.

Rooney coached at UCF for eight seasons, going 261-209 and reaching regionals in 2012-13. Rooney in effect will replace Sean Allen, who initially left Tulane to join Goff at Alabama before deciding to go to Texas and join David Pierce, who left the Green Wave for the Longhorns.

“We wish Terry and his family the best of luck,” UCF vice president and director of athletics Danny White said. “During his tenure at UCF, Coach Rooney showed a great deal of passion for his players and the program. We thank him for his efforts over the past eight years. Terry and his teams have laid a great foundation to continue building on in the future.”

Ryan Klosterman was named interim head coach and UCF said it would begin the search for a new coach immediately.
