We chose D-backs outfielder Corbin Carroll as our Rookie of the Year. In most other seasons, Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson would have been an easy pick—which speaks to the quality of this year’s rookie class and its leading dynamic duo.

In fact, Carroll and Henderson combined to produce 11.7 wins above replacement, according to Baseball-Reference.com, which is a top 10 total for the American and National league Rookies of the Year in a single season.

Their total nudged 2022 Rookies of the Year Julio Rodriguez and Michael Harris II, who combined for 11.5 WAR, out of the top 10.

Some perspective in this case: Baseball writers have been naming Rookies of the Year in both leagues for 75 seasons. That puts Carroll and Henderson in very rare company.
