Padres Promote Adam Mazur To Triple-A

When the Padres traded pitching prospects Drew Thorpe and Jairo Iriarte to the White Sox as part of the March 14 deal for Dylan Cease, it enhanced the MLB opportunity potential for righthander Adam Mazur. The 23-year-old held up his end of the bargain by dominating Double-A hitters to earn a quick promotion to Triple-A El Paso. In six starts for San Antonio, Mazur recorded a 1.95 ERA with 32 strikeouts, five walks and one home run allowed in 32.1 innings. He ranked among the top qualified Double-A pitchers with a 4.2% walk rate (sixth), 22.5% K-BB (ninth) and a 2.53 FIP (fifth). Now, Mazur faces a major challenge at El Paso, one of the most hitter-friendly parks in the minor leagues. Only Albuquerque and Amarillo see more runs scored in home games.
