Atlanta Braves 2025 International Class Scouting Report

With the MLB international signing period opening today, teams can officially begin to sign players in their 2025 class.
For Baseball America subscribers, we have scouting reports and player notes on the classes for all 30 teams, providing information on the big names to know in each class, as well as deeper cut players to watch.
The Braves have been one of the most consistent teams in recent years when it comes to paying an international prospect one of the top bonuses in each class. That’s a trend that should continue this year with Cuban outfielder Diego Tornes. On the younger end of the 2025 class, Tornes is 6-foot-4, 200 pounds and a switch-hitter with a chance to grow into 25-plus home run power. He recognizes pitches well and is typically on time at the plate, giving him a chance to tap into that power against live pitching. The biggest uptick for Tornes since many scouts were following him early in the process has come on defense. Tornes once looked like a left fielder or possibly a first baseman, but he’s improved to become an above-average runner who moves well enough to potentially start in center field, though at his size a corner could be in his future.
Most of Atlanta’s bonus pool will go to Tornes and 16-year-old Dominican righthander Raudy Reyes ($1.8 million). Reyes is big, strong (6-foot-4, 215 pounds) with extraordinary velocity for his age, running his fastball up to 101 mph at recent workouts. His touch and feel lag behind, so there’s plenty of risk to his profile, but it’s already upper-tank velocity that requires no further projection. Venezuelan shortstop Angel Carmona is an athletic shortstop with a well-proportioned 6-foot-1 frame who projects to stick in the middle infield. He’s an aggressive hitter with a line-drive approach from the right side and the strength projection to grow into bigger power once he fills out.
