2021 College Baseball Freshman All-American Teams

There was never more young talent in college baseball than there was in 2021, when an already stout freshman class that arrived on campus prior to the 2020 season was joined by an even more talented group of first-year players last season, many of whom only ended up in college baseball because of the five-round draft MLB implemented last year.

It’s no surprise, then, that the annual Baseball America freshman All-American teams are stacked like never before. In fact, because of the glut of worthy options, what is usually just two teams of freshman All-Americans has been expanded to three teams of freshman All-Americans for 2021.

These circumstances, however, have also made the selection process an imperfect exercise. The conundrum in putting these teams together was whether to just pull from first-year players who arrived prior to last season or to include second-year freshmen as well.

In the end, the decision was made to include second-year freshmen, which is why you will see players like Vanderbilt’s Jack Leiter, who is just days away from being selected early in the draft, awarded alongside first-year players who are still relative unknowns in the college baseball world.

By examining these teams, you find programs like Vanderbilt, with Leiter and true freshman outfielder Enrique Bradfield, Jr., which rode young talent to deep postseason runs, but you will also see the likes of Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara and Campbell with multiple players listed, suggesting the best might be yet to come for those teams.
