2016 High School All-America Teams

One strength of this year’s draft class was high school pitching, and that strength is reflected in this year’s High School All-America teams. Seven All-America pitchers were top 50 draft picks, including first-teamers Riley Pint (No. 4, Rockies), Braxton Garrett (No. 7, Marlins), Forrest Whitley (No. 17, Astros) and Joey Wentz (No. 40, Braves).

Before the season, the Southern California outfield tandem of Blake Rutherford and Mickey Moniak drew recollections of the 2013 Georgia pair of Clint Frazier and Austin Meadows. Frazier was the 2013 High School Player of The Year, and Meadows was a second-team All-American. This year, Rutherford and Moniak are both first-team All-Americans.

These teams were compiled by Baseball America staff, with consideration given to player’s  statistical performance and level of competition. Recommendations from high school coaches and professional scouts were also heavily considered.

This year’s All-Americans come from 15 states. California produced the highest number of All-Americans, with five players coming from the Golden State. Georgia ranked second with four.
