Drafted in the 9th round (281st overall) by the Cleveland Guardians in 2006 (signed for $70,000).

Jared Goedert has an impressive athletic resume. He led Kansas high school quarterbacks in passing yards as a junior, broke a Cloud County (Kan.) Community College record with 73 hits as a freshman in 2004 and earned first-team Summer All-America honors with a strong Jayhawk League performance in 2005. Kansas State's most dangerous hitter, Goedert would enhance his pro chances if he were a better defender at the hot corner. But he's probably going to have to play first base at the next level.

Goedert was one of the SAL's most productive players in the first two months of the season, though he also was one its older players as well. He turned 22 three days before his late-May promotion, which came none too soon as far as the league's pitchers were concerned. He hit .364/.475/.715 with 16 homers in a third of a season. Goedert is very patient, taking pitches until he gets one he can drive and rarely missing when he gets the opportunity. He didn't get a chance to do much in high Class A, as an inflamed left shoulder sidelined him for six weeks and hampered him when he was able to play. He hit .256/.369/.424 with four homers in 35 games for high Class A Kinston. Though Goedert was considered a future first baseman when the Indians drafted him in the ninth round last year, manager rated him the best defensive third baseman in the SAL. He shifted to second base during his last week in the year and stayed there after his promotion. "To me, he was the best all-around player in the league," Tremie said. "His range was developing at third, and it was pretty good to start with. He has an outstanding approach at the plate. But the thing that's most impressive to me is his makeup."
