Age At Draft: 18.9

Pratt pushed himself up draft boards thanks to an excellent 2022 fall, where he hit 5-for-13 (.385) at Perfect Game’s WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Fla. With that showing, he cemented himself as having one of the best batting eyes in the class, and also offers a well-rounded skill set and projectable, 6-foot-5, 205-pound frame. Pratt’s profile starts with his contact ability and batting eye. Over a 668-pitch sample, Pratt has just a 12% overall miss rate and 17% chase rate. He consistently makes good swing decisions and he almost never misses on pitches in the zone, where his miss rate falls to just 6%. Pratt has a loose, crouched setup at the plate with good rhythm and a clean righthanded swing that starts with a medium leg kick. He has solid raw power that is accessed mostly to the pull side now, but his frame suggests a lot more strength and power could be coming in the future. Pratt moves well for his size and has turned in solid-average run times, with a good first step in the infield. His defensive actions are solid and he has a chance to stick at shortstop, but his size and the length of his actions make third base seem a more likely future home—where his plus arm strength will be an asset. Pratt will turn 19 a month after the draft and is a strong Mississippi commit.

-
BA Grade/Risk: 55/Average
Adjusted Grade: 45
Track Record: Pratt signed with the Brewers for $1.35 million on an above-slot deal as a sixth-round pick out of high school in 2023. He became one of the organization’s top prospects in 2024, when he finished the year with 23 games in High-A Wisconsin, then drew an aggressive assignment in 2025 to spend all year in Double-A Biloxi as a 20-year-old. Pratt’s .238/.343/.348 slash line wasn’t particularly inspiring, though it was still an OPS above the Southern League average.
Scouting Report: Pratt’s high baseball IQ is apparent in all facets of the game. His swing is simple, balanced and stays short to the ball for a 6-foot-3 hitter. Pratt will expand the strike zone a touch more often than he should, particularly against sliders down and away, but he has a good sense of timing with the hand-eye coordination that leads to a low swing-and-miss rate. Pratt’s biggest offensive question is how much power he will develop. While he has the size to project more power to come, he doesn’t have big bat speed and his top-end exit velocities are below-average, so he doesn’t project to be a big home run threat. Pratt moves well for his size with plus speed underway. He doesn’t have typical quick-twitch explosiveness that a lot of teams prefer at shortstop, but he compensates for it with his instincts and internal clock to project to stick at the position. While he doesn’t have the range to make some of the more acrobatic, highlight-reel plays, his hands and feet work well, he has good body control and a quick release to a plus arm.
The Future: While fellow shortstop Jesus Made is a potential star in Milwaukee’s farm system, Pratt’s edge on defense gives him the inside track to become the Brewers’ shortstop of the future. He should open 2026 in Triple-A and should make his major league debut either by the end of the year or in 2027.

BA Grade/Risk: 55/High.
Track Record: The Brewers spent well above slot to sign Pratt out of high school in Mississippi for $1.35 million as a sixth-round pick in the 2023 draft. His stock continued to rise in his pro debut in 2024, which included a trip to the Futures Game. Pratt spent most of the season at Low-A Carolina and received a promotion to High-A Wisconsin at the end of July. After the season, he spent a playoff series with Double-A Biloxi in September.
Scouting Report: Pratt has a simple, balanced approach in the box and good bat-to-ball skills when he’s swinging at pitches in the strike zone. He will chase at times, something that got exposed more after his promotion to High-A, where his strikeout rate jumped from 18% to 25%. But he has good hand-eye coordination and feel to manipulate the barrel against both fastballs and soft stuff. Pratt has a line-drive approach with fringe-average raw power, which is enough to pull a mistake over the fence. There’s more room to fill out his 6-foot-4 frame and add strength, which should lead to more home runs, even if he doesn’t have the high-end bat speed that points to him becoming a huge power threat. An average runner, Pratt is a fundamentally sound defender with a good internal clock, body control, a high baseball IQ and soft hands. He has a plus arm and is adept at making throws on the run from different angles. Some scouts like his defense at shortstop, but his lack of first-step quickness and range create some risk that he might eventually slide to third base depending on his physical development.
The Future: Pratt is an up-arrow player with the potential to develop into an above-average regular at shortstop. He could start 2025 back in High-A but should be in Double-A or Triple-A by the end of the year.

Track Record: Pratt’s barrel accuracy and high baseball IQ stood out in high school, making him the no. 63 prospect for the 2023 draft. The Brewers drafted him in the sixth round, signed him for well above-slot at $1.35 million and Pratt went on to hit well in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League in the summer. After the season, Pratt was the buzziest player at the organization’s instructional league, standing out in a system that’s relatively light on shortstops.
Scouting Report: A lanky 6-foot-4 righthanded hitter, Pratt showed a knack for putting the ball in play as an amateur that continued into his pro debut. He has a calm, relaxed swing, trusting his hands with a fluid path to the ball. Pratt has an accurate barrel with the ability to consistently square up both fastballs and offspeed stuff, showing solid strike-zone judgment for his age. Pratt has mainly been a singles hitter with gap power, and while the strength projection remaining in his frame suggests more over-the-fence juice should come, it’s likely going to be a hit-over-power profile. An average runner, Pratt doesn’t have the first-step explosion that some scouts prefer at shortstop, but he plays under control at shortstop with a good internal clock and a plus arm. He impressed defensively at shortstop in his pro debut, though as he fills out there’s a chance he could slide over to third base.
The Future: The early returns have arrows pointing up on Pratt, who could take a significant leap forward if he’s able to unlock more power. He’s likely ticketed for Low-A Carolina to open 2024.
