School: UNC Wilmington Drafted/Committed: Giants ’22 (18)
Age At Draft: 21.4
BA Grade: 45/High
Thach was named CAA player of the year in 2024 after hitting .324/.406/.700 with 27 home runs, 11 doubles and 75 RBIs. The UNC Wilmington all-time home run leader took a step back in 2025, particularly in the power department, finishing the season with a .325/.409/.538 line, 12 home runs and 11 doubles. Still, he made some progress in his approach, trimming his strikeout rate from 19% to 15%, though he continued to chase pitches at an alarming 35% clip. A physical 6-foot-4, 225-pound lefthanded hitter, Thach brings a loud combination of bat speed and plus raw power to all fields. He creates easy lift with natural strength and torque, though his swing can get long due to a pronounced barrel tip. Slight adjustments to his handset could help shorten the path and improve timing. Thach’s bat-to-ball skills are solid, and his strike zone awareness continues to trend in the right direction despite his chase issues. Thach is a well below-average runner who won’t be much of a baserunning threat, but he does show adequate agility around the first base bag and could become a nimble defender there with a strong throwing arm. Thach threw a few innings in the bullpen as a two-way player in 2023 and 2024 and touched 92 mph. He’s very much a hitting prospect in pro ball.

Track Record: Thach was the Coastal Athletic Association’s Player of the Year in 2024 after hitting .324/.406/.700 with 27 home runs, setting UNC Wilmington’s career home run record along the way. His production cooled in 2025—particularly his power output—but he still delivered a strong .325/.409/.538 line with 12 homers, and the Rockies selected him in the eighth round. He received his first taste of pro ball with 18 games at Low-A Fresno to close the year.
Scouting Report: Thach is a physical 6-foot-4, 225-pound lefthanded masher built around plus bat speed and big raw power to all fields. He creates easy lift through natural strength and torque, though a pronounced barrel tip can lengthen his swing. Small adjustments to his handset could help him stay shorter to the ball and improve timing. His contact skills are solid and his strike-zone awareness trended upward in college, but his 42.6% chase rate in his pro debut was concerning. Thach is a well below-average runner, but he moves well enough around first base, where he looks like a serviceable defender.
The Future: First base-only profiles are inherently tricky, but Thach’s strength, bat speed and raw power gives him a path to the big leagues. Reducing his chase rate will be essential for him to reach his offensive ceiling.

Thach was named the CAA’s player of the year in 2024 after hitting .324/.406/.700 with 11 doubles, 27 home runs and 75 RBIs. He is a physically imposing presence in the box at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds. Thach has no shortage of bat speed and he has legit plus power to all fields, but his swing gets a little long thanks to a barrel tip. Lowering his handset slightly could help alleviate the issue. Thach will need to hone his approach, though his bat-to-ball skills are solid. He moves well around the first base bag and could even hold down an outfield spot in a pinch, but his long-term defensive home is likely at first base. He’s a college two-way player who has thrown a handful of innings in the pen, but his pro future is as a hitter.
