Tredwell was one the top prep pitchers in his class as an underclassman at Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) High, but he missed his junior year after having Tommy John surgery and didn’t pitch his senior year. He returned to the mound as a UCLA freshman in 2022 and impressed in relief before moving into the Bruins rotation this spring as a draft-eligible sophomore. He went 4-2, 3.57 with 51 strikeouts and 12 walks in 45.1 innings before back and rib injuries ended his season. Tredwell is one of the tallest pitchees in the draft class at 6-foot-8, 230 pounds and is an imposing presence on the mound. His fastball sits 92-93 mph and touches 95 with excellent carry through the top of the zone. He complements his fastball with a 12-to-6 curveball in the upper 70’s that has plus potential, an above-average, low-80s slider with tilt and depth and a developing changeup that has average potential. Tredwell has excellent body control and repeats his delivery despite his long levers. He has plus control of his four-pitch mix and shows a good feel for mixing and matching his arsenal. Tredwell is a second-rounder on talent, but his medical history is concerning with elbow and back injuries already on his ledger. He projects to be a back-end starter if he can stay healthy.

BA Grade/Risk: 45/High

Track Record: Tredwell was a highly-touted prep pitcher who missed time with Tommy John surgery his junior year of high school. He spent two seasons at UCLA and missed the second half of his sophomore season with a back injury. Tredwell was hurt again in his professional debut in 2024, as a shoulder strain on July 14th ended his season prematurely. The 2025 season proved to be Tredwell’s healthiest since his freshman year at UCLA. Tredwell threw 100 innings across three levels and reached Double-A in early August.
Scouting Report: Standing 6-foot-8, Tredwell strikes an imposing figure on the mound, and he uses his length to get downhill and create difficult angles for hitters. Tredwell hides the ball well with a longer arm action and throws from a high three-quarters slot. He mixes four pitches in a four-seam fastball, slider, curveball and splitter. Tredwell’s fastball velocity was down a tick from his final season at UCLA, sitting 91-93 mph. He has added more cut and now generates seven feet of extension on average. Tredwell’s primary breaking ball is his low-to-mid-80s slider with short slider shape. His downer curveball in the mid-to-high-70s is his best bat-missing pitch and was effective in Double-A. Tredwell scrapped his previous changeup for a mid-80s splitter in 2025 that showed potential.
The Future: Tredwell shows average command of four-pitch mix and enough deception to project as a depth starter or long reliever.
Track Record: Tredwell was a highly touted prep pitcher who missed time because of Tommy John surgery and arrived on campus at UCLA in the fall of 2021, taking over the closer’s role for the Bruins as a freshman. Tredwell made the jump to the UCLA rotation his sophomore season, but a back injury ended his season early. The Astros selected Tredwell in the second round and signed him for $1,497,500. He debuted with Low-A Fayetteville in 2024 and made 17 appearances before his season ended due to a shoulder strain suffered on July 14.
Scouting Report: Despite a large, physical build at 6-foot-8, Tredwell has dealt with back, elbow and shoulder injuries and struggles to finish seasons. He mixes a four-seam fastball at 91-93 mph, a low-80s slider, a mid-80s curveball and a changeup. The curveball is Tredwell’s best pitch and best bat-misser, and he shows above-average command of the pitch. His four-seam fastball has ride and slight cut, but the velocity is below-average. Tredwell might be in line for a move to the bullpen, where his stuff will play up and the health concerns will be somewhat depressed. Tredwell shows above-average command of his fastball and curveball but doesn’t show the same feel for his slider or changeup.
The Future: Tredwell is likely to move to the bullpen, where his fastball and curveball combo could play up.
Track Record: As a rising Junior at Mater Dei High in Southern California, Tredwell had Tommy John surgery and missed all of the summer showcase circuit and his senior year. He arrived at UCLA in 2022 ready to contribute and took over the closer’s role as a freshman. Tredwell made the jump to the Bruins’ weekend rotation as a draft-eligible sophomore and made nine starts before a back injury cut his season short. Despite his shorter track record and murky injury history, Tredwell intrigued the Astros in the second round in 2023. Tredwell signed for an above-slot bonus of just shy of $1.5 million and did not pitch following the draft.
Scouting Report: A tall, physical pitcher at 6-foot-8, 230 pounds, Tredwell’s size has not equated to durability. he mixes four pitches led by a four-seam fastball with plus ride that sits 92-93 mph and touches 95 at peak. His primary secondary is an upper-70s curveball with heavy two-plane break. Tredwell also throws a slider in the low 80s with tighter gyro shape and a rarely-used changeup. Tredwell’s ability to use the north-to-south plan of attack is his bread and butter. He rides his four-seam high and works his curveball off of it. Historically, Tredwell has shown well above-average command. He walked just 18 batters across 92.1 collegiate innings, including a sterling 6% walk rate as a starter in 2023. His ability to land all of his pitches in the zone with great regularity is his standout skill. Tredwell is a refined strike-thrower with a starter’s frame and pitch mix. It’s just a matter of finding consistent health.
The Future: Tredwell has a future as a no. 4 starter if he can hold up to the rigors of pitching every five days.
