Moore has been a model of consistency for Tennessee in his three-year career. A 6-foot-1, 216-pound righthanded hitter and infielder, Moore has hit over .300 with double-digit home runs in all three seasons for the Volunteers, culminating in a breakout 2024 campaign in which he slashed .376/.453/.796 with 32 home runs heading into the College World Series. Moore was a power-over-hit offensive player with big strikeout questions during his first two seasons, but in 2024 he cut his strikeout rate from around 25% to just 15%, and his overall contact rate jumped from a poor 65% mark to an impressive 77%. He owes that improvement to a much better performance against secondary pitchers, which gave him issues in his first two seasons. Moore is a broad-shouldered hitter with impressive bat speed who has used the entire field for his home run production. While he doesn’t have much physical projection remaining, he should have more than enough raw power to get to average or better home run totals if his newfound contact ability holds up. Moore has spent time all over the infield and outfield with Tennessee and started the 2024 season at shortstop before sliding over to second base fairly quickly. His arm has been an issue in the past and is light for the left side of the infield, but it should play at the keystone, where he could be a fair defender. Moore is a solid-average runner underway.

Track Record: A routine physical as a Tennessee freshman determined that Moore needed contact lenses to correct an astigmatism. That helped set the stage for a record-breaking career with the Volunteers. As a junior in 2024, Moore set the Tennessee program records for single-season (34) and career (61) home runs. He finished his collegiate career by hitting for the second cycle in College World Series history and helping Tennessee to its first national title. The Angels drafted Moore eighth overall in 2024 and signed him for a well below-slot $4,997,500. They quickly assigned him to Double-A Rocket City, where he slashed .322/.378/.533 with five home runs in 25 games before a meniscus injury halted him for two weeks.
Scouting Report: Moore is a 6-foot-1 righthanded hitter with a running-back build and middle-of-the-order power. His swing is geared for damage. He takes aggressive hacks with impressive bat speed that produces all-fields power and 25-plus home run projections. An aggressive hitter, Moore shortens up and becomes more selective with two strikes, but he still has some chase concerns that limit his hit tool to near average. A big swing slows him out of the batter’s box, but he shows average-or-better speed once underway. Seeing time all over the field in college, Moore’s fringy arm and footwork may limit him to second base—where he played exclusively in pro ball—as a serviceable defender due to his high motor. He received reps at third base during instructional league to keep him more engaged pre-pitch and show more defensive consistency. He is praised for his leadership and willingness to listen and work.
The Future: Moore will have to refine his hit tool and chase rate to reach his middle-of-the-order ceiling. He will get a chance to crack the Angels’ lineup out of spring training in 2025.
