The son of Mike Jerzembeck—who was a fifth-round draft pick by the Yankees in 1993 and pitched in the big leagues in 1998—Eli is a projectable righthander with a loose arm and terrific feel to spin the baseball. His velocity is inconsistent. At times he’ll pitch in the 89-91 mph range and other times he’ll operate at 92-95 mph. What scouts will see every time they watch Jerzembeck, however, is a hard-biting breaking ball in the mid 70s with high spin rates in the 2,800-2,900-rpm range. Jerzembeck has also thrown a low-80s changeup with arm-side fade and tumble at times but needs to develop more consistency with the pitch. He sells it well with good arm speed (and he’s got plenty of whippy arm speed in general) and it looks like a swing-and-miss pitch at times when he locates it down. It’s another solid secondary, but the breaking ball looks like his true out pitch. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound righthander is committed to South Carolina, but could be selected in the third-to-fourth round range depending on his signability. If he does make it to campus, Jerzembeck will be sophomore-eligible in 2024, and will be 19 on draft day.
