Track Record: Benitez signed with Miami for $225,000 out of the Dominican Republic in 2023, reached the States at 18, and excelled across time in the Florida Complex League and at Low-A Jupiter. He returned to Jupiter in 2025 and posted a 3.89 ERA with 33 strikeouts and 24 walks in 37 innings before being sent back to the FCL for a month due in part to on-field immaturity.
Scouting Report: Benitez is a slender 6-foot-1 lefthander with a drop-and-drive delivery and a three-quarters slot that generates above-average extension, helping his fastball variants play above their 92-94 mph velocity. His four-seamer has limited carry but above-average armside run, while his sinker creates even more horizontal action. Benitez’s best pitch is a mid-80s changeup with nearly 10 inches of vertical separation from his four-seamer and significant fade. Evaluators think it could evolve into a double-plus pitch. He also mixes a tight, low-to-mid-80s slider and a high-70s sweeper; neither spins particularly well and both project as average. Benitez’s shapes and improving velocity give him a strong foundation, but strike-throwing remains his chief obstacle. His 13% walk rate in 2025 was a step back from 9.9% in 2024, reflecting inconsistency in repeating his delivery.
The Future: With youth and physical projection, Benitez has the ingredients for a midrotation starter if he can significantly improve consistency and strike-throwing. For now, control issues limit his reliability. He should open 2026 in High-A Beloit.
Track Record: Benitez was signed for $225,000 out of the Dominican Republic in 2023, and his pro career could not have gotten off to a better start. After holding his own in the Dominican Summer League in 2023, he proved himself too advanced for the complex league to start 2024, earned a promotion to full-season ball as a freshly turned 18-year-old and posted a 3.12 ERA with more than a strikeout per inning.
Scouting Report: Benitez has a slender build and generates velocity with his loose, whippy frame. His fastball sits 91-95 mph with plenty of natural armside run, and he projects to continue adding velocity as he gets older and stronger. His slider is big and sweepy and effective versus lefties more for its depth than its power. His favorite pitch is his low-80s changeup, which features good sell and big separation off the fastball. His command is spotty at present, but his stuff has been good enough thus far to survive in damage parts of the zone. He has a smooth delivery with little effort, so evaluators are optimistic his control and command will grow as he matures.
The Future: Benitez will open the 2025 season at age 18, and may head back to Low-A to start the year. He could see High-A later in the season with performance. If he continues to make strides with control and velocity, he could develop into a No. 3 starter in a big league rotation.
