LONG BEACH, Calif.—The White Sox beat the Yankees 8-3 to open the 2016 Area Code Games.

Oklahoma commit Kaden Polcovich (Deer Creek High, Edmond, Okla.) doubled home the first run in the first inning for the White Sox, who are representing the Midwest region. Deer Creek teammate Mitchell Stone, a 6-foot-10 lefthander, started the game and gave up one run in three innings.

Jordon Adell (Ballard High, Louisville, Ky.) broke open the game for the White Sox with a two-run double in the third inning, and on the mound he was impressive as well, striking out five in two innings.

“My goal was to let it flow,” Adell said.

Other White Sox standouts included righthander Sam Carlson (Burnsville High, Savage, Minn.), who struck out two batters in two innings and Calvin Greenfield (Jenson Beach (Fla.) High), who went 3-for-3.

Vanderbilt commit Cooper Davis (St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary, Mississauga, Ontario) stole home in the bottom of the third to get the Yankees on the scoreboard. Fellow Canadian Adam Hall (A.B. Lucas Secondary, London, Ontario) led the Yankees with two RBIs.
