Triple-A All-Star Game Rosters

The International League and PCL have announced their rosters for the 2016 Triple-A all-star game, which will be played July 13 at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte. It will be broadcast on MLB Network beginning at 7 p.m. EST.

Triple-A all-star games tend to pack the lowest prospect punch of minor league all-star games because most players who’ve excelled to this point have been promoted. That said, there are still plenty of interesting players.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Yankees’ affiliate, at one point had four choices, including Nos. 2 and 3 prospects Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge. Sanchez is a power-hitting catching prospect who is No. 36 on the Midseason Top 100 Prospects, has sharpened his receiving and blocking and has a powerful throwing arm that scouts rate a 70 on the 20-80 scout scale. Judge, the 6-foot-7 right fielder with light-tower power, has hit seven homers in the past 10 games to raise his season slash to .266/.353/.490. But Judge has a knee sprain and is out three to four weeks, so he will obviously not play.

Buffalo (Blue Jays) also has four participants, including former Yankees top prospect Jesus Montero, who’s now a DH.

The other Top 100 Prospect on the IL squad is Twins shortstop Jorge Polanco, the No. 97 prospect. Polanco is growing into his power and showing off his lightning-quick hands that generate great bat speed.

For the PCL, the Mets-affiliated 51s have three representatives, including righthander Gabriel Ynoa, New York’s No. 13 prospect entering the season. Ynoa has an average fastball that plays up because of present plus control, although he doesn’t miss many bats (5.7 strikeouts per nine innings as a pro).

El Paso is represented by the Padres’ Nos. 3 and 13 prospects, respectively, in outfielder Hunter Renfroe and infielder Carlos Asuaje. Renfroe, the Padres believe, has become accustomed to swing adjustments he made last season while still hitting for power while Asuaje is outplaying his utility man profile so far.

Iowa’s Dan Vogelbach (Cubs) is a Kyle Schwarber lookalike if not play-alike as a powerful, squat slugger without a real position. He has the league’s fifth-best on-base percentage (.422), while his 15 homers are tied for third-most.

Brady Rodgers will be the first Fresno (Astros) pitcher to start a PCL all-star game. A third-round pick in 2012 from Arizona State, Rodgers has had a breakout season, ranking first in WHIP and second in ERA. Teammate James Hoyt, the final cut in spring training after showing two plus pitches, leads Triple-A with 19 saves.
