Trezza Leaves LIU-Brooklyn For Boston College Assistant Job

Alex Trezza left Long Island-Brooklyn after two seasons as head coach to become the associate head coach at Boston College, the university said Tuesday.

Trezza, 35, joins the staff of Boston College coach Mike Gambino, replacing former associate head coach Jim Foster, who left to become the head coach at Army last month. Trezza, like Foster, will also serve as the Eagles’ pitching coach. Last week, Gambino promoted assistant coach Greg Sullivan to recruiting coordinator, which had also been part of Foster’s job at BC.

Trezza went 35-70 in his two seasons as head coach of the Blackbirds. He caught at Stony Brook, and was drafted by the Tigers in the 18th round in 2001. He played professionally for 12 seasons between the minor leagues and independent ball.

LIU-Brooklyn now becomes the latest school looking for a head coach. The Blackbirds have not made the NCAA tournament since 1972.
