Top 100 Prospects Position Rankings: Corner Outfielders

Now that we’ve wrapped up the Top 10 Prospects lists and The Top 100, we turn our attention to how the best of the best stack up against each other with our position rankings.

CORNER OUTFIELDERS

Quality of the Class:  While you’ll find 12 corner outfielders in the Top 100, that’s fewer corner bats than center fielders. By the time this list gets into the teens, it’s a combination of hitters with flaws as well as some who scouts wished were a little more accomplished in center field so they could slide over and rely less on their bats.

Highest Ceiling: Nomar Mazara is a massive right fielder who hits for average and is growing into his power as he gets ready to head to Triple-A as a 21-year-old. In other words, there’s an awful lot to like.

Lowest Risk: Few doubt that Austin Meadows will continue to hit as he climbs the minor league ladder. Ideally he remains in center field for the long term, but he probably fits better defensively in a corner. He can play either and his combination of bat control and solid power makes him a safer-than-usual bet.

Bursting On The Scene: He’s a long way from the big leagues and he’s toying with playing third base as well, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has the power potential to be one of the better international signings of recent years. He’ll make himself noticed in small doses in 2016, but he should really take off in 2017 and beyond.
