Spring Training MLB Prospect Report—March 4, 2021

Baltimore Orioles

—No. 16 prospect Jahmai Jones collected two hits and scored twice against the Braves. The 23-year-old utilityman was traded to the Orioles by the Angels for Alex Cobb and cash in February.

—No. 1 prospect Adley Rutschman doubled in a run in the seventh inning against the Braves, finishing the day 1-for-4.

Boston Red Sox

—No. 3 prospect Bobby Dalbec hit eight home runs in just 23 games as a rookie in 2020 and hit two home runs against the Twins on Wednesday, giving him three so far this spring.

Cincinnati Reds

—No. 6 prospect Tejay Antone struck out five and allowed one hit in two scoreless innings against the Dodgers. The 27-year-old righthander impressed in a long-relief role in 2020, posting a 2.80 ERA with 45 strikeouts and 16 walks in 35.1 innings.

Colorado Rockies

—No. 7 prospect Colton Welker drove in three runs with a sixth-inning go-ahead single that proved the difference in the team's win over the Athletics.

Detroit Tigers

—No. 4 prospect Matt Manning struck out one and allowed a hit in two scoreless innings against the Phillies in his first appearance of the spring.

Los Angeles Dodgers

—No. 11 prospect Zach McKinstry singled in a run in the second inning against the Reds, then stole second base later in the inning. The 25-year-old is expected to serve as a utilityman for the Dodgers this season.

Miami Marlins

—No. 14 prospect Connor Scott drove in two runs and collected a hit against the Nationals. The 21-year-old outfielder drove home one run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly and two innings later singled home another.

Milwaukee Brewers

—No. 2 prospect Garrett Mitchell, a 2020 first-rounder from UCLA, entered the game in the seventh inning as a pinch runner, scored on an RBI double, then singled home a run in the eighth inning. He finished the day with two runs scored and an RBI.

Minnesota Twins

—No. 7 prospect Aaron Sabato got his first hit of the spring and scored once against the Red Sox. The 21-year-old first baseman from North Carolina was the 27th player taken in the 2020 draft.

Seattle Mariners

—No. 2 prospect Jarred Kelenic connected on a two-run home run, his first of the spring, in the fourth inning against the Cubs. The 21-year-old outfielder is on the verge of making his big league debut after impressing team officials at the alternate training site last summer.

—One day after driving in his first run of the spring, No. 6 prospect Taylor Trammell hit a solo home run to deep center field in the fifth inning. The 23-year-old outfielder is 2-for-5 this spring with two RBIs.

St. Louis Cardinals

—No. 8 prospect Andrew Knizner collected two hits, including a double, and scored twice against the Mets.

Tampa Bay Rays

—Wander Franco, the No. 1 prospect in baseball, got his first hit of the spring with a solo home run to right field in the second inning against the Pirates. It was the 20-year-old shortstop’s first Grapefruit League home run in 13 at-bats. He finished the game with two hits in three at-bats.

—No. 5 prospect Shane McClanahan pitched a scoreless inning of work, allowing a hit and striking out one.

Texas Rangers

—No. 16 prospect Steele Walker, acquired from the White Sox for outfielder Nomar Mazara at the 2019 Winter Meetings, smashed an opposite-field solo home run in the third inning against the Angels. The 24-year-old outfielder will likely start the year at Double-A Frisco but could make his big league debut later in the season.

Toronto Blue Jays

—No. 4 prospect Simeon Woods Richardson struck out one and walked one in two scoreless innings in his spring debut. The 20-year-old righthander should make his upper-minors debut in 2021 with a chance at arriving in Toronto later in the season.

—No. 7 prospect Alek Manoah excelled in relief, striking out four batters and allowing a hit in two scoreless innings.
