Rockies Acquire T.J. Rumfield From Yankees For Angel Chivilli
The Yankees and Rockies hooked up on a small deal on Wednesday, with the former sending first baseman T.J. Rumfield in exchange for righthander Angel Chivilli. This is Rumfield’s second time being traded. The first came in 2021, when he and lefty Joel Valdez were sent from the Phillies to the Yankees in a move for catcher Donny Sands and righty Nick Nelson.
Rumfield makes plenty of contact, hits the ball and puts it in the air. To reach the next level, he’ll need to crank up the juice even more. He chases slightly more than is ideal, and 2025 was the first time in his career that he struck out more than 100 times. Rumfield is a solid defender with a fringy arm and well below-average speed.
Chivilli has long had intriguing stuff but has yet to post much in the way of results in the big leagues. He throws hard and can drive empty swings, but he’ll need to hone in his control and command to become a reliable bullpen piece.
