Prospect Report: Nick Pratto Homers Twice
Thursday's Prospect Performers
Spencer Strider, RHP, Braves: Strider made a pretty strong declaration that he could be a valuable part of the Braves big league bullpen. Strider struck out five of the six batters he faced last night. He sat at 99 mph and touched 100.3 mph. In just 24 pitches, he got eight swings and misses (7 on his fastball and one on his slider).
Nick Pratto, 1B, Royals: Triple-A Omaha's Wednesday game was rained out, so they played a doubleheader on Thursday. Pratto homered on both ends of the doubleheader.
His first was a shot to straight center field.
And his second went out to right field.
Bobby Witt Jr., 3B, Royals: Speaking of Royals prospects, Witt made his MLB debut on Opening Day. His first MLB hit was an eighth-inning RBI double that proved to be the game winner.
Hawkeye Standouts
Hitting: Padres/El Paso 1B Aderlin Rodriguez had a 116.1 mph exit velocity on a single--the best in Triple-A so far this season. Round Rock OF Bubba Thompson (Rangers) and C Sam Huff (Rangers) both had hits over 110 mph. Sugar Land CF Pedro Leon (Astros) had an 111 mph exit velocity on a single.
Pitching: Oklahoma City RHP (Dodgers) generated an exceptional 25+ inches of induced vertical break on multiple fastballs.
Baserunning: Thompson continues to demonstrate his well-rounded toolset. In addition to having a 110 mph hit, Thompson posted sprint speeds of 30.8 and 30.5 feet per second while stealing two bases on Thursday. That 30.8 ft/second sprint speed is the third time he has posted that so far this year. Very few big leaguers posted sprint speeds better than that in 2021.
