Cuban righthander Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez logged five innings for the big league Phillies in 2014, but the 29-year-old otherwise failed to live up to the three-year, $12 million deal he signed in August 2013. Shoulder injuries derailed his U.S. career, for he recorded just 63 minor league innings in two years in the organization.
According to Baseball-Reference.com, Osmel Aguila is a 27-year-old, righthanded-hitting Cuban outfielder.

Among the released Mariners minor leaguers are a pair of second basemen. Dominican Martin Peguero signed for $2.9 million in 2010 but hit just .250/.281/.314 in parts of three seasons at low Class A Clinton. Seattle signed Cuban middle infielder Dayner Moreira in January, but it quickly changed direction. Moreira defected at the 2014 Caribbean Series, but according to Ben Badler, international scouts viewed him as more of an organizational player.

A basketball forward at Connecticut through 2014, Tyler Olander tried his hand at baseball, after eight years away, in a Hartford-area amateur wood-bat league in 2014. The Blue Jays signed the 6-foot-10 lefthander in March, and he reportedly shows mid-80s velocity and feel for a breaking ball.
