Baseball America Prospect Report—May 3, 2021

Akil Baddoo, LF, Tigers — Baddoo has been a great story, but he’s now going through the growing pains that are likely to come from jumping from high Class A to the majors. Baddoo went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts on Sunday. He’s now hitting .203/.233/.522 and has struck out in 15 of his last 25 at-bats.

Alex Kirilloff, 1B, Twins — Kirilloff’s first hit came in his sixth game after his call-up, as he finally shrugged off an 0-for-14 start. But this weekend, he started to turn things around. Kirilloff homered twice on Friday, once more on Saturday and once more on Sunday. He’s still hitting an avert-your-eyes .184, but four homers in 40 plate appearances gives him a more impressive .526 slugging percentage.

Emmanuel Clase, RHP, Indians — Clase’s ERA remains a perfect 0.00 as he threw one scoreless inning on Sunday. Clase topped out at 102 mph on Sunday. His 84 100+ mph pitches is already far and away the most by an Indians pitcher in the Statcast era. The rest of Cleveland’s pitching staff has 14 100+ mph pitches since 2008.

Alec Bettinger, RHP, Brewers — Bettinger made his MLB debut on Sunday, but the Dodgers were not exactly friendly to Milwaukee’s starter. Bettinger gave up 11 runs in just four innings on 11 hits. He left the game with a 24.75 ERA and a .500 opponents batting average.
