Arizona Fall League Prospect Report: Surprise, Surprise, Teodo Keeps Mowing ‘Em Down

Emiliano Teodo, RHP, Rangers: Clearly, Teodo’s resurgence is the best thing to happen to the Rangers this fall. Until he switched from a four-seam to a two-seam fastball, he seemed on a path to becoming the type of pitcher who has little chance of escaping the minor leagues. The repertoire readjustment shifted his fortune. He has been a late-inning star in the Fall League. On Thursday, he locked down the ninth inning in Surprise’s win over Mesa to earn his fifth save of the fall. With the outing, his fall line moves to a stunning three hits and three walks in 11 innings. He’s struck out 19.

Teodo’s Revamped Arsenal

Here’s how the Rangers pitcher altered his fastball and perhaps the trajectory of his career in the process.

Eric Cerantola, RHP, Royals: Cerantola was Kansas City’s fifth-round pick in 2021 via Mississippi State. During the 2023 season, the Canadian righthander was one of the system’s most efficient strikeout artists. He racked up 99 strikeouts in 76.1 innings between High-A and Double-A. This fall, he’s continued overpowering the opposition. He fanned five in two innings on Thursday during Surprise’s win over Mesa. The outing moved Cerantola—who primarily mixes a mid-90s fastball with a nasty curveball in the low 80s—to 18 strikeouts in a dozen AFL frames.

Kala’i Rosario, OF, Twins: In the regular season, Rosario made his name by getting on base and hitting balls hard. In the Fall League, those two trends have continued. The 21-year-old has just 15 hits in 21 AFL games, but seven of them left the yard. The latest longball came on Thursday, when he connected for a two-run blast in the second inning of Glendale’s dramatic win over Peoria.

Bryan Ramos, 3B, White Sox: When Ramos is going well, he looks every bit of a future star. The 21-year-old Cuban showed a flair for the dramatic on Thursday, connecting on a walk-off grand slam to give Glendale its 12th win. The home run was his fourth of the fall. Ramos was limited to just 77 games in the regular season, which, aside from a few tune-up games, was spent at Double-A Birmingham. With the Barons, Ramos clubbed 14 home runs and produced an .808 OPS.
