Arizona Fall League Prospect Report: Cardinals Outfielder Launches Homer

Victor Scott II, OF, Cardinals — One of the premium speed and defense prospects in the game, Scott has an underrated offensive profile. He’s an advanced contact hitter, with a strong approach and the ability to get on base a variety of ways. Scott had just 11 home runs through 178 professional games entering last night. All of those came against righthanded pitching. But on Wednesday, Scott hit his first AFL home run against lefthander Eric Sabrowski, marking his first home run against a lefthander as a professional.

Jakob Marsee, OF, Padres — The versatile Padres outfield prospect has enjoyed his time in the desert this fall. After Wednesday’s 3-for-5 showing, Marsee raised his Arizona Fall League line to .390/.493/.644 over 75 plate appearances. Marsee is also a perfect 11-for-11 on the base paths and has spent a majority of his time in center field. One of the more well-rounded players in the Padres system, the biggest question is just how much power Marsee possesses with below-average exit velocity data.

Oliver Dunn, 2B, Phillies — The final pick in the minor league portion of the 2022 Rule 5 draft, Dunn has come a long way in just a year. After being discarded by the Yankees after last season, Dunn hit .271/.396/.506 over 119 games with Double-A Reading. He was assigned to the Arizona Fall League after the season and has mashed over 13 games for the Scorpions, hitting .340/.459/.680 with nine extra base hits and 9 stolen bases. Dunn is frequently overlooked, but is making the most of his second chance.

Jace Jung, 2B, Tigers — It hasn’t been the most eventful AFL for Jung, but yesterday he seemed to get his swagger back as he went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI. Jung has a solid combination of above-average power and average plate skills. He has an unusual setup from the left hand side, but it’s never limited his ability to catch up to velocity. While Jung’s older brother prepares for the World Series, Jung was carrying the torch for the talented family on Wednesday.

Alexander Canario, OF, Cubs – Canario is making up for lost time in the Dominican Winter League (LIDOM) with Aguilas after a brutal injury robbed him of a good chunk of the 2023 season. Canario went 3-for-4 on Wednesday and put three balls in play at 99 to 100+ mph. Canario has an exciting combination of plate skills and plus power with athleticism that plays in other parts of his game.

Orelvis Martinez, SS, Blue Jays – After a big bounceback season, the Blue Jays slugger headed to the LIDOM for additional work. He’s seeing more time at second base early in LIDOM play, which might be a pathway to playing time in Toronto early in 2024. On Wednesday, Martinez went 1-for-3 with a double and two balls in play that were recorded at 94+ mph.
