2021 Los Angeles Dodgers Instructional League Roster
The Dodgers' instructional league roster is highlighted by a first-rounder with a famous name and a tooled-up outfielder who had a rough go of it in his first test as pro. The first-rounder is high school lefthander Maddux Bruns, whom the Dodgers popped with the 29th overall pick, who boasts a fastball that has touched 97 mph from the left side, as well as a pair of breaking pitches which have each flashed plus potential.
Outfielder Luis Rodriguez signed with the Dodgers in 2019 and then had his potential pro debut wiped out by the pandemic. This year, after making swing changes to help him be more direct to the ball, he swatted eight home runs in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League. The total tied him with Cleveland's Junior Sanquintin for fourth on the circuit.
The Dodgers also will bring catcher Yeiner Fernandez to Camelback Ranch. The 19-year-old backstop was outstanding in the ACL, where he slashed .319/.382/.454 in 35 games. Then, in a seven-game cameo at Low-A Rancho Cucamonga, Fernandez went 16-for-31 with just three strikeouts in 31 at-bats.
