Inevitably, there are players every year who barely miss the cut when we narrow down the list. These players are all worth monitoring for various reasons and it’s likely some will either reach the big leagues in 2024 or enjoy breakout seasons lower in the minors.

Here are next 10 players to know in the Marlins system beyond their Top 30.

31. Torin Montgomery, 1B

A strong first baseman, Montgomery was one of the better hitters in the Florida State League in 2023, but he was also old for the league as a 14th-round pick out of Missouri, and he struggled after a promotion to High-A Beloit. He hits the ball extremely hard, but he doesn’t get to a lot of power because of a very level swing.

32. Eliazar Dishmey, RHP

Dishmey is fresh off his first season stateside, and worked to a 6.64 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 20 innings with the FCL Marlins. He just turned 19 in October, but has already shown flashes of a loud arsenal and big-time upside. There is some reliever risk with the athletic righthander, but he has the stuff to be effective out of the bullpen.

33. Evan Fitterer, RHP

A fifth-round pick in 2019, Fitterer in 2023 enjoyed the best year of his professional career. Between High-A Beloit and Double-A Pensacola, the 6-foot-3 righthander pitched his way to a combined 4.26 ERA with 118 strikeouts across 122.2 innings. His command and control will need to improve, but Fitterer projects as a potentially solid fourth or fifth starter.

34. Ian Lewis, 2B

Lewis in 2023 spent the entire season with Low-A Jupiter and set new career-highs in RBIs (44), doubles (19), home runs (5), and stolen bases (33). The uptick in power also came with a jump in swing-and-miss, as shown by his 98 strikeouts in 423 at-bats. The athletic infielder is a plus runner and provides a solid glove on the infield. Expect Lewis to start 2023 back in Jupiter, where he could quickly earn a promotion to High-A Beloit.

35. Paul McIntosh, C

The 2021 undrafted free agent has carved out a nice professional career. During the 2023 season, McIntosh split time across three levels and finished the season with Triple-A Jacksonville. Across 77 games, the physical backstop hit .244/.355/.419 with seven doubles and 14 home runs. He has above-average raw power as well as solid catch-and-throw skills. He could join the big league club at some point during the 2024 season.

36. Josh Simpson, LHP

The 6-foot-2 lefthander spent the vast majority of the 2023 campaign with Triple-A Jacksonville, where he showed off his effective fastball-curveball combination. Simpson sported a 4.19 ERA and notched 59 strikeouts across 34.1 innings. If he does not crack the major league roster out of spring training, expect Simpson to earn a callup at some point during the 2024 season.

37. Janero Miller, OF/LHP

A two-way player hailing from the Bahamas, Miller presents intriguing upside on both sides of the baseball. At the dish, the athletic switch-hitter slashed .239/.331/.310 but struck out 56 times in his 113 at-bats. On the mound, Miller pitched his way to a 7.07 ERA with 22 strikeouts and 22 walks in 28 innings. He spent the entirety of the 2023 season in the Dominican Summer League. His game lacks refinement, but the 17-year-old is one to watch in 2024 as he is likely to make his stateside debut.

38. Alex Williams, RHP

Williams in 2023 enjoyed a strong first full professional season and pitched his way to a 5.06 ERA with 107 strikeouts against 35 walks across 99.2 innings. He spent the entirety of the year with High-A Beloit and made 21 starts. The Stanford product’s fastball sits in the low 90s, but he supplements it with a plus changeup that on average is nearly 12 mph slower than his heater. Williams possesses advanced pitchability and projects as an effective backend of the rotation arm.

39. Matt Pushard, RHP

The burly 6-foot-4, 245-pound Pushard this year showed off his effectiveness between High-A Beloit and Double-A Pensacola. He compiled a total ERA of 2.91 and collected 52 strikeouts in 52.2 innings. Pushard features a mid-90s fastball as well as a sharp curveball. He will likely start the 2024 season back with Double-A Pensacola, but expect him to be with Triple-A Jacksonville by season’s end.

40. Dale Stanavich, LHP

A fiery southpaw from New York, Stanavich pitches with a major chip on his shoulder and is always in attack mode on the mound. At Low-A Jupiter in 2023, he worked a 3.56 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 30.1 innings. Stanavich’s fastball has been up to 95, and he also flashes an effective mid-80s slider. While he’s a reliever all the way, Stanavich has the chance to be an effective late-inning arm.
