Schrand has a smaller build, with a compact, 6-foot, 180-pound frame but plenty of arm strength. He’s been up to 96 mph this spring but averages around 91-93 mph and there’s some concern that the pitch plays down from his velocity. He posted a 4.61 ERA this spring over 14 starts and 68.1 innings, though his strikeout (12.1 K/9) and walk (2.6 BB/9) rates were solid. Schrand also throws an upper-70s curveball and a mid-80s changeup, though the arm strength is what scouts seem to be most excited about with him.
