Track Record: Vivas put together a long track record of hitting as an amateur and signed with the Dodgers for $300,000 out of Venezuela in 2017. He continued that trend with a .327 batting average in his stateside debut and followed by hitting .312 in his full-season debut in 2021 at the Class A levels. The Dodgers added Vivas to the 40-man roster after the season, though the lockout meant he couldn't work with organizational coaches or use team facilities during the offseason. Vivas understandably got off to a slow start at High-A Great Lakes in 2022 after those restrictions, but he eventually found his stroke and hit .285 from mid-May through the rest of the season.
Scouting Report: Vivas is small lefthanded hitter with a short, compact swing and an excellent feel for the barrel. He shoots balls from line to line and puts the ball in play on a regular basis. He controls the strike zone, works counts and battles through long at-bats to wear pitchers down. Vivas has the approach and contact skills to hit for average, but he's undersized and lacks the strength to impact the ball consistently. He'll occasionally get into a ball and drive it over the fence, but his power is below-average and he doesn't have room to add much more. Vivas is a below-average runner who is limited defensively to second base, where he is an average defender who makes the routine plays. His arm strength is fringy but enough to make the throws.
The Future: Vivas has the pure contact skills but will need to hit the ball harder to be a major leaguer. He'll head to Double-A in 2023.

Track Record: Vivas was an undersized shortstop with a track record of hitting when the Dodgers signed him for $300,000 out of Venezuela in 2017. He never really grew and he moved off of shortstop, but he’s continued to hit. Vivas made his full-season debut in 2021 and hit .321 with 14 home runs, 87 RBIs and an .893 OPS as he rose from Low-A to High-A. The Dodgers added him to their 40-man roster after the season to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.
Scouting Report: Vivas hardly stands out with his small, unimposing frame, but he’s a talented hitter who frequently outperforms his more physically gifted peers. He consistently puts the bat on the ball with his excellent hand-eye coordination and natural ability to manipulate the barrel. He has a sharp eye at the plate and rarely chases, forcing pitchers to throw strikes and not missing when they do. Vivas posts below-average exit velocities, but he picks out pitches to drive and has gotten strong enough to sneak them over the fence. Vivas is a below-average runner with a fringy arm and is limited to second base defensively. He makes routine plays but is challenged on the move.
The Future: Vivas’ size and lack of athleticism lead to skepticism he’ll succeed at higher levels. He’ll try to silence those doubts at Double-A in 2022.

Vivas has an advanced feel to hit for his age and consistently produces at every level. He controls the strike zone and has the ability to manipulate the barrel to all parts of the zone and hit just about anything. He has a solid foundation for making contact and is beginning to grow into power.
