A 34th-round pick of the White Sox out of an Iowa high school in 2011, Freese attended Lousiana State-Eunice JC for a semester before returning home and not pitching last spring, so he is a 21-year-old freshman. He throws a 91-93 mph fastball that sits at 95. He throws from a high arm slot that imparts a lot of break on his spike curveball, a plus pitch when he's on. The 6-foot-4, 195-pounder arches his back in a delivery reminiscent of Tim Lincecum's, giving him deception but also leading to below-average control and command. Of greater concern is his makeup, a question for teams that could knock him down a few rounds in the draft from where his talent might warrant.
