Busfield has started and relieved in three seasons at Loyola Marymount, and found his greatest success as a closer in his sophomore season, racking up 14 saves to rank 11th in the nation. He's an imposing specimen at 6-foot-7, 230 pounds, and he's moved into the Friday role for Loyola Marymount in a strong season for Friday starters in the West Coast Conference. He has a high release point from a fairly over-the-top delivery that gives him a tough angle to the plate when he's right. Busfield's fastball reached 95 mph consistently in relief and has reached that in starts, though he typically pitches at 90-93 mph. His delivery can get a bit stiff, and he lacks deception. His changeup and curveball haven't developed along with his fastball, and he lacks a second pitch that can miss bats to go with his fastball. Busfield could have more in the tank if he returns to a relief role.
