  Martin pitched three seasons with Division III Sewanee (Tenn.) and was the conference pitcher of the year in 2022 after posting a 3.89 ERA over 69.1 innings with 98 strikeouts. Following the year, Martin transferred to Kentucky, where he started the 2023 season strong before running into a few speed bumps with his control when SEC play began, and injuries cut his season short. Ultimately, he posted a 4.44 ERA over eight starts and 26.1 innings, with a 25.9% strikeout rate and 14.7% walk rate. When healthy, Martin has thrown a 93-95 mph fastball that has been up to 98, with solid riding life. He’s primarily gone to an 80 mph slurvy breaking ball after the fastball, and generated a 33% miss rate with the pitch this spring. Martin has also used a mid-80s changeup. He has the makings of a solid three-pitch mix, but below-average control and health will now cloud his status, despite a strong start to his SEC career.

  Martin has generated strikeouts at an impressive rate throughout his Sewanee (Tenn.) career, but this spring was the first time he threw more than 35 innings in a season while still doing it. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound righthander posted a 3.89 ERA over nine starts and 69.1 innings, while striking out 98 batters (31.7 K%) and walking 25 (8.1 BB%). Martin throws a fastball in the low 90s and runs the pitch up into the mid 90s, while throwing from a lower, three-quarter arm slot. His go-to secondary is a breaking ball in the upper 70s and he has also thrown a mid-80s changeup—but it’s a distinct third offering.
