Saltiban is the top Hawaiin prospect in the class and a late riser who impressed scouts this spring with a solid all-around package of tools. A 6-foot, 185-pound righthanded hitter, Saltiban has a polished, aggressive swing with a lot of bat speed and a chance for above-average power. His competition level in Hawaii wasn’t the greatest, and scouts don’t have much history with him facing quality velocity and secondary stuff, so hit tool evaluations could vary strongly, but Saltiban played in the MLB Draft League after the season to get more reps against more advanced arms. He has turned in plus run times and should settle in as an above-average runner in the future, with split opinions on whether or not he’ll stick in center field long term. He has the above-average arm that could allow him to play either corner well, and some teams think he’ll outgrow center field while others think he has the speed, instincts and defensive chops to stick up the middle. Some teams are more aggressive on late-rising prospects than others, given how much performance track record and history are weighted, but those who like Saltiban view him as a fourth- or fifth-round talent now. If he doesn’t get signed, he’s committed to Hawaii.

Track Record: Saltiban leapt up draft boards during his senior season of high school in 2023 thanks to an eye-opening set of tools. The Hawaii native went in the third round and signed for $602,500. Saltiban was an outfielder in high school, but a Phillies crosschecker saw him taking infield grounders before a game and was intrigued enough to give him a chance to play second base as a pro. He spent the entirety of his first full season at Low-A Clearwater, and his 17 homers ranked third in the Florida State League.
Scouting Report: From the moment the Phillies signed Saltiban, they knew his development would be a slow burn. Toward the second half of the 2024 season, he started to catch fire. From July 1 onward, he hit .263/.381/.504 with nine home runs. Scouts praised Saltiban’s ability to find the barrel but noted that he needed to improve the consistency of his at-bats and work to improve his weaknesses on fastballs up and offspeed away. They were also impressed by the amount of thump—he produced a max exit velocity of 110 mph—he generated from a smaller frame. Reviews on his defense on the infield were mixed, but evaluators believe his plus speed would serve him well if he moved back to the outfield. Center field would be his likeliest home if that were the case thanks to his average arm.
The Future: If Saltiban can maintain his second-half momentum in 2025, he could be one of the system’s bigger breakout prospects. He has the upside of an everyday center fielder with table-setter skills.

Track Record: Saltiban was the highest-rated Hawaiian prospect in the class and began opening the eyes of evaluators during his draft spring after showing an impressive set of tools. The Phillies drafted him in the third round and signed him away from a commitment to Hawaii with a bonus of $602,500. The selection came with a twist. As an amateur, Saltiban was an outfielder, but Phillies crosschecker Shane Bowers saw him taking grounders before a game and believed he had the chops to handle the position as a pro. He got into 10 games in the Florida Complex League.
Scouting Report: Saltiban has a smooth, simple swing that the Phillies believe should produce a combination of average and power, and noted that his amateur exit velocities were better than average for the typical 18-year-old. The biggest caveat is that he hasn’t had much experience against the type of high-velocity fastballs he’ll see in pro ball. He has plenty of bat speed, however, which should help him get to 55-grade power. Saltiban’s last experience at shortstop came when he was in Little League, so his development at the position might take a bit of patience. In a system with Trea Turner in the big leagues and a host of prospects already at the position, he’ll have plenty of leash to develop. Saltiban earns above-average marks for his speed and throwing arm.
The Future: Saltiban should reach Low-A in 2024, depending on how the team deploys the rest of its young middle infielders. He’s a risky prospect who could provide plenty of value one day.
