Larson has stood out on the big stage for the past several years, producing at the top showcases and tournaments around the country, and his body of work and projection earned him a scholarship to LSU. Most reports on Larson prior to this spring acknowledged his bat-to-ball skills and recognized him as a consistent line drive hitter with some thump to the pull side. This spring, it was apparent the 6-foot-1, 195-pound outfielder added size and strength to his frame, increasing his exit velocity and ability to hit home runs. Larson’s swing is direct and compact to the ball, not lacking in bat speed. He does like to lift for damage and obliterates pitches middle-in and down in the zone. Most of his damage still occurs primarily to the pull side, but he did demonstrate the ability to stay on pitches on the outer rail this spring. Defensively, Larson’s profile is solid. He’s a slightly above-average runner with good reads off the bat, allowing him to make the difficult plays in the gap. He has solid-average arm strength and should be able to stay in center field for now, although he might need to move to a corner eventually. Larson could make an immediate impact in LSU’s lineup next year, but he also has draft buzz in the sixth-to-eighth-round range.
