Commit/Drafted: Tennessee
Age At Draft: 18.9
Rucker is a physical third baseman who wasn’t on the national showcase circuit in 2022, but has drawn a bit of attention this spring by hammering the baseball with Goodpasture Christian High in Madison, Tenn. Listed at 6-foot-2, 193 pounds, Rucker has now physicality and strength with an impressive ability to drive the ball with authority to the right-center gap with long levers that create plenty of leverage offensively. He has plenty of room for more strength and power in the future and could get to plus raw power in short order. The evaluations of his hit tool will vary from team to team, but he has shown solid rhythm in the box and an ability to use all fields. He ran a 6.71-second 60-yard dash at PBR’s Super 60 Showcase, which is a plus run time, though he might become more of a 55-grade runner in the future when he adds more mass. Rucker has a chance to stick at third base at the next level with solid actions, particularly given his length and size. He’s committed to Tennessee.

Organization Prospect Rankings
-
BA Grade: 50/Extreme
Track Record: Tennessee has had a number of pop-up prep prospects who haven’t been seen on the showcase circuit, most notably the Rangers’ Evan Carter. Rucker isn’t on that level, but he established himself as an excellent prospect by hitting everything in sight as a high school senior. He finished the spring hitting .523 with 18 home runs and 31 stolen bases. Area scout Harold Zonder and scouting director Mark Conner saw him a lot and put him firmly on the team’s radar for the draft.
Scouting Report: The Tigers believe they found a day two gem in Rucker. He can flash an above-average run time, he’s got an above-average arm and he has the frame to continue to add more good weight and strength. More than anything, Rucker has the ability to develop into above-average power while staying on the left side of the infield. His frame may eventually outgrow shortstop, but he has a chance to play there in the near term, and his long levers and power potential should profile at third base as well.
The Future: Rucker’s power potential and athleticism are worth watching, and his ability to play shortstop and third base are useful for Detroit, as third base is one of the organization’s weaker positions. He should be part of a prospect-laden Lakeland team in 2024.
