School: Louisville
Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age at Draft: 21.9
Gongora ranked as the No. 285 prospect in the 2023 class when he was named the Horizon League pitcher of the year for Wright State. He went undrafted and transferred to Louisville for the 2024 season where he has added more mass to his frame that’s translated to a harder fastball. After sitting in the 89-92 mph range in 2023, Gongora was more in the 92-93 mph range on average and touching 97 through his first five starts of the 2024 season. The added velocity has come with a bit more stiffness in his delivery and a lower arm slot, but his solid control has remained. He has added a new slider in the low 80s and is throwing his formerly mid-70s curveball a bit harder and more consistently in the upper 70s. He’ll occasionally mix in a mid-80s changeup to righties though all of his secondaries are fringy sort of pitches.

Track Record: Gongora was the Horizon League pitcher of the year as Wright State’s ace in 2023, going 10-1, 3.17. He then transferred to Louisville for 2024, adding weight and throwing harder, but at the cost of a stiffer, less athletic delivery. He struggled with the Cardinals, going 5-4, 6.14 in 15 starts. The Orioles liked what he flashed and nabbed him in the 11th round of the 2024 draft.
Scouting Report: Gongora touched 96-97 mph at his best at Louisville, but that velocity faded away closer to the draft. With the Orioles, he’s regained some arm speed. He now sits 93-95 mph and touches 97-98. His cutter, changeup and curve are all fringy for now, but have the potential to be refined. His 5.00 ERA in 2025 didn’t fully show how he pitched. He limited hard contact and struck out 28.8% of batters.
The Future: There’s work to do and Gogora’s pitch mix may need to be improved, but his combination of arm speed and competitiveness give him a chance to be a starter or a useful lefty reliever.

Gongora had a strong season with Wright State in 2023. He posted a 3.17 ERA over 16 starts and 93.2 innings, with a 22.4% strikeout rate and 8.3% walk rate. A 6-foot-5, 215-pound lefthander, Gongora has plenty of room to fill out and was named the Horizon League pitcher of the year for his performance. He throws from almost straight over the top, and his slot allows him to generate nice backspin on his fastball, a pitch that sat in the 89-91 mph range but has been up to 94. While Gongora does have a high release point, he also generates a ton of vertical break with the fastball—nearly 20 inches this spring. He also throws a mid-80s changeup with arm-side fade and a mid-70s curveball with 1-to-7 shape and gradual downward depth. While his fastball plays better than his velocity indicates, Gongora will need to refine his secondaries to succeed in a starting role in pro ball.
