Organization Prospect Rankings
-
BA Grade/Risk: 50/Extreme.
Track Record: Liranzo’s older brother Thayron is a well-regarded catching prospect the Tigers acquired from the Dodgers in the Jack Flaherty trade in 2024. The younger Liranzo, who trained at Fernando Tatis’ academy in the Dominican Republic, signed for just under $500,000 with the Orioles in 2023. He had a .793 OPS with five home runs in the Dominican Summer League in his first pro summer but missed a lot of his 2024 U.S. debut in the Florida Complex League with a knee injury.
Scouting Report: Liranzo has loud tools but also a polish and aptitude for the game that gives him one of the higher ceilings of any of the Orioles’ recent international signees. He makes good contact and had just an 18% chase rate in 2024, with plus raw power and hard contact ability giving him the potential to be an average hitter with major power potential, particularly if he tweaks his swing path to help him lift the ball more consistently. Liranzo has a plus arm at third base and is athletic enough that he can still play some shortstop, which he will continue to do going forward.
The Future: Liranzo has the upside to be a middle-of-the-order bat in the big leagues, though his injury means he’s light on professional experience. As such, he may stay back in Florida for further seasoning in 2025 before a full-season assignment to Low-A Delmarva.
Scouting Grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 45 | Field: 50 | Arm: 60.
