View Draft Report
One of the faster players in the 2022 class, Boyd is a double-plus runner who will turn in 80-grade run times from home to first, and times under four seconds on jailbreaks. That speed gives him a carrying tool and should allow him to provide plenty of value as a defender in the outfield, with excellent defensive instincts and athleticism that allow him to make difficult plays on the run in the gaps. He needs more refinement as a hitter. He has quick hands in the box and could turn into a contact- and speed-oriented bat, but there’s little impact presently. Boyd does have a lean, 6-foot-1, 166-pound frame that should add more strength in the future, but where he is drafted will ultimately depend on how highly a team buys into his pure hitting ability. Boyd is committed to Northwest Florida JC.

BA Grade/Risk: 45/Extreme
Track Record: Boyd has a pair of clear carrying tools that allowed him to separate himself in the 2022 draft class, with plus-plus speed and at least plus defense in center field. There were questions around his offensive impact, but the Phillies were confident enough in his potential that they drafted him in the 11th round and signed him to a well over-slot $647,500 bonus. Boyd had an encouraging 2022 pro debut, hitting .361/.477/.389 across 11 games between the Florida Complex League and Low-A.
Scouting Report: Boyd was one of the top athletes in the 2022 draft class, and his plus-plus speed allowed him to steal eight bases in 10 tries in his pro debut. He's at least a plus defender in the outfield, with great instincts and the speed to cover a lot of ground in center field, with a solid arm to go with it. He has strong bat-to-ball skills, with the ability to hit to all fields, but he lacks present power in his 6-foot-1, 177-pound frame. There's a belief that he could add power in the future, but it's likely to be below-average, gap-to-gap power at best.
The Future: After a brief full-season debut in 2022, Boyd should spend the 2023 season at Low-A Clearwater.
Scouting Grades: Hitting: 50. Power: 30. Running: 70. Fielding: 65. Arm: 50.
