School: Southern California
Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 21.2
BA Grade: 40/High
Tools: Hit: 40. Power: 40. Run: 70. Field: 60. Arm: 45.
One of the best athletes in the class, Overn played for USC’s football team during the 2022 fall and then turned in a first team Freshman All-American season on the baseball field after leading the nation with 14 triples in 2023. He didn’t quite replicate that performance during his draft-eligible 2024 season and after two years with the program is a career .291/.376/.495 hitter with 12 homers and 33 stolen bases. A 6-foot, 175-pound center fielder, Overn is a contact hitter who will need to spray balls into the gaps and take advantage of his double-plus running ability. Scouts thought he was pressing more frequently this spring and noted that his swing looked a bit more rigid, though at his best he shows an ability to smoke hard line drives to all fields. Overn is a bit aggressive at the plate and could stand to walk a bit more frequently. Defensively, he should be a safe bet to stick in center field where his speed and athleticism will allow him to be a plus defender with a fringy arm. His speed plays on the bases where he has gone 33-for-42 (78.6%) in his two seasons with USC. After a disappointing and brief stint in the Cape Cod League in 2023, Overn headed to the Cape again in 2024 before the draft and hit well through his first 10 games.

BA Grade/Risk: 45/High.
Track Record: A freshman All-American at Southern California who also played wide receiver on the football team in his first fall on campus, Overn was a draft-eligible sophomore who turned in a solid 2024 season and signed for an above-slot $850,000 as the 97th overall pick.
Scouting Report: Overn’s athleticism shines through on the baseball field, and he boasts the intriguing potential to add strength to improve an offensive profile that’s built around contact and line drives at present. While he may not develop even average power, his ability to hit the ball at good angles and take a quality at-bat might allow him to impact a game more than a below-average hitter otherwise would. If he gets on base, his double-plus speed makes him a threat to change the game. Defensively, he can play a strong center field thanks to his quickness and instincts, even if his arm may be a little light.
The Future: Overn will need to improve his profile at the plate to be anything more than a bench player at the highest level, but the rest of his skill set means a bit of offensive improvement can make for plenty of impact. He’ll start at High-A Aberdeen in 2025.
