Paredes popped up early in the season when he touched 94 mph and showed the makings of an above-average curveball as the Saturday starter for San Diego State, but he faded badly as the year went on and finished with a 5.59 ERA. Paredes is undersized at 5-foot-11, 185 pounds and was sitting 89-90 mph by the end of the season, so he will have to prove he can stay durable over longer stretches. The flashes he showed early in the season have teams interested on the draft’s third day.
