View Draft Report
Cohen is fresh off a career year in which he hit .387/.460/.523 with 24 doubles, a pair of home runs, 19 stolen bases, and 30 walks to just 15 strikeouts. Cohen has a hitterish look in the box and has a short, compact swing in which he takes a direct path to contact. It’s a line drive-oriented stroke that’s geared toward spraying line drives to all parts of the field, and Cohen has displayed a particular knack for using the opposite field. His contact ability and bat-to-ball skills are both excellent, and this spring he posted an 89% overall contact rate and a 91% overall in-zone contact rate to go along with a sound approach and advanced swing decisions. Cohen runs well and profiles best in a corner outfield spot.

Track Record: After the Giants surrendered their 2025 second-round pick for signing free agent Willy Adames, they spent their third-round pick on Cohen, an outfielder from Rutgers with a variety of gifts on both sides of the ball. In his draft year with the Scarlet Knights, Cohen hit .387/.460/.523 with 24 doubles, two home runs, 19 stolen bases and just 15 strikeouts in 273 plate appearances. He finished his college career with more walks (80) than strikeouts (62) and did the same over 28 games with Low-A San Jose.
Scouting Report: With their first two picks in the 2025 draft, the Giants emphasized contact in a major way with first-round pick Gavin Kilen and Cohen, who rarely missed in college or as a pro. In fact, Cohen’s zone-miss rate with San Jose was 9.2%. He hits the ball plenty hard but needs to get the ball off the ground to make the most of his tools. If he can do that, he projects for 40-grade power on the 20-80 scouting scale. Cohen filled the void created in center field in San Jose when Dakota Jordan hit the injured list. He manned the position ably, and evaluators believe he has the speed and instincts to stick there. In his pro sample, he showed above-average speed and excellent jumps. He has the chops to man all three outfield spots thanks to plus arm strength, but he’d need to tap into every bit of his power potential in order to profile in either corner. Cohen is an above-average runner with outstanding instincts that allowed him to swipe 39 bases in 45 chances in college and eight more in 10 tries as a pro.
The Future: Cohen’s time at Rutgers should give him the pedigree to matriculate to High-A Eugene, where he’ll likely split center field with Dakota Jordan in 2026. His bat-to-ball skills and defense give him a solid floor, but a step or two forward in the power department could help him break out.
