Perry was a highly-touted recruit out of La Mirada High School and was selected in the 38th round of the 2019 draft by the Rockies but didn’t sign. After playing sparingly in his first two collegiate seasons, Perry put together a quality 2022 season in which he hit .286 with six doubles and two home runs. In 2023 Perry hit .278/.386/.358 with three home runs, an 18.8% strikeout rate and a 12.1% walk rate. While Perry doesn’t have much in the way of in-game or raw power, he significantly cut his strikeout rate year-over-year after striking out more than 30% of the time in 2022. He stands upright in his stance with an open front side, and while the bat or hand speed is not overwhelming, Perry will extend through the baseball nicely, which allows him to shoot a gap on occasion. Behind the dish, he is an average defender who will occasionally make an above-average throw. His blocking and lateral movement will need some touching up and his pure arm strength is better than how it plays thanks to scattered throws at times and accuracy issues. Perry needs some work defensively, but has the tools to be a solid catcher, with a contact-oriented bat that fits as a day three talent, though his position could push him up into late day two range on draft day.
