BA Grade/Risk: 40/Medium.
Track Record: The Padres signed Sabrowski out of junior college in 2018 for $125,000, but he pitched sparingly for the organization thanks to the 2020 Covid pandemic and a pair of Tommy John surgeries. Enamored with his arm talent, Cleveland selected him in the 2021 minor league Rule 5 draft, and three years later he made his major league debut as a small piece in the Guardians’ excellent homegrown rotation. Sabrowski didn’t allow a run over 12.2 innings with a 19:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio in September, then pitched well in 5.1 postseason innings.
Scouting Report: Sabrowski is a strong and physical, 6-foot-4, 230-pound lefthander who creates great extension in his delivery and throws from a high three-quarters slot. He throws his fastball in the 92-95 mph range and touches 96. He creates elite riding life with his fastball, which averaged more than 2,600 rpm of spin. He’s able to dominate the top of the zone with his heater, then mix in a slider and curveball that both flash above-average potential. The mid-80s slider/cutter missed more barrels, but he likes to throw a downer, upper-70s curveball just as frequently. Sabrowski threw strikes in his brief big league stint in 2024, but has historically had below-average control.
The Future: Sabrowski is a definite reliever, but should be a plug-and-play piece for the Guardians bullpen to start the 2025 season.
