He's quick behind the plate and has already shown a knack for controlling the running game. He caught 30.3 percent (10 of 33) of would-be basestealers in his pro debut but needs to work on handling balls in the lower part of the strike zone and blocking pitches in the dirt. That area for improvement showed up through 14 passed balls in 26 games, the worst mark in the AZL. The White Sox believe he has a chance to hit and will display solid bat-to-ball skills, but his body needs to fill out so he can handle the rigors of a full season.

THE FUTURE: Torres will likely start 2020 in extended spring training before either a return to the AZL or a move to Rookie-level Great Falls. He has the ceiling of a defense-first backup catcher.
