Drafted in the 12th round (371st overall) by the Chicago White Sox in 2022 (signed for $125,000).
View Draft Report
The Colonial Athletic Association player of the year hit .347/.406/.621 this year, marking the second straight year that he’s posted a .900-plus OPS. The switch-hitter should be able to remain a plus hitter in pro ball, with plenty of bat speed and line-drive oriented swings that produce extra-base hits in the gaps more than home runs. An above-average runner, Baldwin has played second base, shortstop, third base and all three outfield spots. He is best in the outfield, where he has an above-average arm and average range, but he may profile best at second base. Baldwin turned down the Giants in the 15th round last year. He was even better this year, and a strong performance in the Cape Cod League should further help his draft stock.

Track Record: The White Sox drafted Baldwin in the 12th round out of UNC Wilmington in 2022. His first full pro season in 2023 yielded modest production between both Class A levels, but he was impactful in a small sample at High-A Winston Salem. That proved to be a harbinger for an outstanding 2024 season, which began in Double-A and ended with 33 games in the big leagues. Most of his damage came with Double-A Birmingham where he hit .322/.386/.441 over 74 games.
Scouting Report: The switch-hitting Baldwin deploys a simple, level swing from the left side and a longer, deeper load from the right side. He uses the whole field and shows occasional penchant for finding the barrel. Baldwin produces roughly average exit velocities although he chased 30% of the time in 2024. Defensively, Baldwin can play just about anywhere. He has seen action everywhere but catcher and pitcher since turning pro. Baldwin played mostly at shortstop in 2024, where he’s an above-average defender with an average arm. He’s not a fast runner but has instincts on the bases and stole 21 bases between the three levels. The son and nephew of baseball coaches, Baldwin is regularly lauded for his grinder mentality and makeup.
The Future: Baldwin will need to hit better than his .566 OPS in his major league debut, but he’s expected to produce enough to eventually take on a utility role in the big leagues.
