Krehbiel's signing scout, Tom Kotchman, knows the Seminole (Fla.) High program well, seeing as that's where his son Casey played prior to being the Angels' first-round pick in 2001. Krehbiel won Pinellas County's player of the year award as a junior shortstop in 2010 and then its pitcher of the year honor in 2011. Signed for $125,000 as a 12th-rounder in 2011, he initially believed he was going to play third base, but he's been a pitcher throughout his pro career. An elbow injury sidelined Krehbiel for much of 2011, but he seems to have put that behind him. He has been used as a set-up man as an Angels farmhand, so he isn't exactly a priority prospect, but he's shown a 91-93 mph fastball that touches 95 from a low-three-quarters arm slot that makes him a very rough look for righthanders (.454 OPS at low Class A Burlington in 2013) but a relatively easy one for lefties (.806 OPS). Krehbiel has a solid-average breaking ball and a tick-below-average changeup. He's ready to try to survive the hitting environments of the high Class A California League in 2014.
