View Draft Report
Aita is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound righthander and draft-eligible sophomore who pitched out of the bullpen for Kennesaw State in 2023 but made a successful transition to the starting rotation this spring. He posted a 3.90 ERA over 85.1 innings and 16 starts with 84 strikeouts and 28 walks. Aita throws a fastball in the low 90s and touches 95 with a breaking ball in the 78-82 mph range that is near average and a fringy mid-80s cutter. He also pitched out of the bullpen for Yarmouth-Dennis in the 2023 Cape Cod League. Aita’s pitch mix is fringy to average across the board with no clear out pitch and he could also refine his command a bit more to stick in a starter role as a pro

BA Grade/Risk: 45/High
Adjusted Grade: 30
Track Record: Aita pitched to relatively pedestrian numbers and substandard velocities over two years at Kennesaw State, but his ability to spin the ball and deceptive delivery led the Red Sox to take the draft-eligible sophomore in the sixth round in 2024 for a below-slot $300,000 bonus. In 2025, he made strength and stuff gains that allowed him to improve steadily during a solid pro debut. He was traded to the Cardinals in December 2025 in a deal that brought 1B Willson Contreras to Boston.
Scouting Report: With a herky-jerky delivery that hitters find off-putting, Aita then creates even more deception by hiding the ball well before releasing it from his ear. That deception as well as carry to his fastball allowed his 93-94 mph fastball, which tops out at 95, to play up. Aita also spins the ball exceptionally well. His low-80s sweeper can at times exceed 3,200 rpm, a mark reached by fewer than 50 big leaguers in 2025, and drove a whiff rate north of 40%. He also works in a curveball. Though he works in the strike zone, his changeup will need to develop for him to remain a starter.
The Future: Aita will continue to get opportunities to prove he can start, but his sweeper could also give him a path to a bullpen role. He should reach the upper levels in 2026, giving him a potential big league ETA of 2027.
