In his first and only season at Virginia, Valincius earned a spot in the weekend rotation and posted a 4.59 ERA with 70 strikeouts to 17 walks across 64.1 innings. He then entered the transfer portal and committed to Mississippi State. Valincius averaged 93.8 mph on a fastball that has been up to 97 mph with some armside life, and his mid-to-upper-80s slider flashes plus with long, lateral break and sharpness. His mid-80s changeup has also flashed above average with armside fade and late tumble. Both pitches generated consistent swings and misses, particularly the slider, which produced a 44% whiff rate. Valincius is a plus strike-thrower with a thick, physical build, especially in his lower half, and looks the part of a professional starter. -
School: Baylor HS, Chattanooga, Tenn. Commit/Drafted: Virginia
Age At Draft: 18.9
Valincius is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound lefthander with a strong and physical frame and a chance for three solid-average pitches. He doesn’t have a clear wipeout offering now but he pitches in the low 90s and has been up to 94 with a 78-83 mph slider with some sweepy action and a changeup in the low 80s. Valincius often misses with the changeup to his arm side but the pitch has solid arm-side fading life if he can add a bit more feel for it. Otherwise Valincius has shown the ability to get to average control and profiles as a solid starting pitcher because of it. He’s committed to Virginia and is the younger brother of Vytas Valincius, who is a righthanded slugger who plays for Illinois.
