Track Record: Camargo has learned the value of patience as a pro baseball player. He signed with the Dodgers in 2015. It took him another four years to reach full-season baseball. He was traded to the Twins in the Kenta Maeda trade just before the pandemic in February 2020. He didn’t get to make his Twins debut until 2021, and he reached Triple-A in 2023. He went back there again in 2024, but did get a brief MLB debut in April and another short stint in the majors in July.
Scouting Report: Camargo is the personification of a third catcher who hopes to become a big league backup. He has real power with some of the better exit velocities in the Twins system, but he also struggles to catch up to velocity and doesn’t have great pitch recognition. Camargo is capable of handling a big league staff defensively, as he works well with pitchers, brings plenty of energy and has developed into an above-average receiver and framer. He has a plus arm as well. His lack of plate discipline makes it unlikely he can ever slide into an everyday role.
The Future: As long as Ryan Jeffers and Christian Vazquez are both healthy and on the roster, Camargo is an on-call backup right down the road at Triple-A St. Paul for a third-straight season. His profile remains that of a poor-hitting backup catcher with power potential.

BA Grade: 40/Medium
Track Record: Camargo signed with the Dodgers in 2015 and commenced a very slow and steady climb through the minors. He needed three years in rookie ball before he reached full-season ball and the Twins acquired him in the 2020 Kenta Maeda trade. Camargo didn’t reach Double-A until his eighth year in pro ball. He had his best year as a pro in 2023 where he hit 21 home runs for St. Paul. He was added to the 40-man roster in november 2023.
Scouting Report: Camargo’s power is his calling card. He hits the ball as hard as nearly anyone in the Twins farm system, and should pile up home runs even if he’s struggling to hit for average. He swings at most everything, and his over-aggressiveness leads to plenty of strikeouts. All that would be fine if Camargo’s defense was a little better. He’s playable, but he’s fringe-average as a pitch framer, receiver and blocker. It’s not bad enough to make him unplayable, but it means a big league team will usually have a better defender on the roster. His above-average arm is his best defensive asset.
The Future: Camargo’s 2024 depends in large part on external factors. With Ryan Jeffers and Christian Vazquez under contract, Camargo is slated to return to Triple-A St. Paul unless there’s a trade or an injury. His defense makes it tough to see him fitting as a typical backup profile, but he’s an excellent third catcher option to have sitting in Triple-A.
