With the Royals moving prospect Justin Huber to the outfield at Triple-A Omaha and Kila Kaaihue struggling this season at Double-A Wichita, the Royals' cupboard was bare for first base prospects in the high minors. They addressed that by acquiring Ryan Shealy, a 6-foot-5, 250-pound power-hitting first baseman, in a four-player trade with the Rockies.
